Both search and selection methodologies, or indeed a combination of the two are available to us. This contrasts with many competitors who are typically structured around either search or selection, but not both. KPMG’s Search and Selection Services has the flexibility to use media for selection of professionals in the targeted market. A large market cover to substantiate a well-defined role in a strong business sector is a preferential line of selection.
We can advise on when and whether to recruit by helping clients confront the associated organizational issues.
We also take a truly long-term view of relationships and we will not embark upon an assignment before we are convinced that the client has thought through the requirement and furthermore that we are confident we can complete the work. Once an assignment is under way, the client can look forward to regular and candid progress reporting. We strive to continually maintain this level of attention after the actual appointment is made and cover the transition for the new entrant into the client company.
We can bring clear insights into the market realities of Bahraini and expatriate. In the case of expatriates we provide the country culture and cost of living indexes of the home country.

KPMG’s ESS function offers the following nine services in their national practice:
Executive Search
This recruitment tool is a proactive and systematic approach focused on identifying the right candidate for a given vacancy. This means that ESS is retained by clients to establish prospective candidates’ interest by approaching them directly with details about the client and the vacancy, followed by extensive interviewing to verify their suitability for the role, in order to produce a shortlist of recommended candidates.
Advertised Selection
This refers to the recruitment tool whereby an advertisement is placed on behalf of a client in the press in order to attract a pool of candidates. ESS is responsible for preparing and placing the advert, handling all the responses, screening CVs, checking candidates’ interest and interviewing them for suitability in order to produce a shortlist of recommended candidates. This service is offered on a retained fee structure whereby the client is also paying for the expenses of advertisement.
Combined Search
The combined approach, as it suggests is a joint effort of placing an advertisement on behalf of a client while simultaneously undertaking executive search activities in an effort to attract the best available talent in the market. This retained search approach has the ability to be highly responsive with a fast turnaround time.
One-off Placement
One-off placements are either an approach by ESS towards a targeted individual whereby the client provides the details of the individual’s current position and/or contact name, or in an instance where ESS presents a strong candidate from the ESS database to a client as a ‘drop-in’. In case of a successful placement in either situation, a one-off placement fee is charged to the client, fully payable upon contract signature between the client and candidate. This contingent approach may also be applied when clients require a database search.
Out Placements
ESS offers this service where by KPMG is hired to outplace the candidate(s) to different organizations for reason being downsizing or over-staffing. This service is offered to assist clients in identifying suitable jobs for their existing employees in organizations that will hold their candidature suitable for absorption. These projects are taken on turnkey basis.
Psychometric Assessment
Psychometric Assessment testing services are used on candidates to assess their ability and aptitude towards the job assigned or the candidates being considered for a particular job. These tests are conducted to assess various skills required for the job as well as soft skills, which are difficult to be assessed at the time of interview or personal meetings. The testing can include Verbal Application which measures the ability to understand the meaning of words, logic within sentences and the use of grammar, and Occupational Personality Questionnaire which provides a in-depth picture of how a candidate sees himself against a range of personality dimensions and analysis of the results. The fee structure for this service is a fixed amount per candidate.
Interview Assessment
ESS offers the possibility to assist organizations assessing their potential talent by conducting thorough interviews on the client's behalf. This objective approach concentrates on the degree of matching the candidate with the job profile and organization by assessing previous work experience and performance, educational background, appearance, self-expression and personality traits, motivation and career potential. The fee structure is based upon an hourly rate, fully charged upon completion of the interview assessment. Additionally the client should pay the hourly rate for preparation work activities and the evaluation process (including writing report of recommendations) upfront as a retainer payment.
Assessment Centers
Assessment Centers are forms of development centers for individuals whereby various techniques including psychometric tests, group discussions, simulations, ability tests, technical competency tests and other tests are administered to evaluate the competencies of an individual. The fee structure for this service is a fixed amount per candidate per day.
Interim Management
This service involves acting as a principal, contracting with the client company to provide management services on an interim basis and in effect sub-contract an interim manager. The billing for this service is an ongoing process charged to the client (monthly/quarterly) and where the interim manager in turn bills ESS.
Reference checks are conducted by ESS, which is an integral part of the service. This addresses the intended employee’s skills and attributes relevant to the proposed employment. A confidential referees’ report is supplied to the client. KPMG acts as an intermediary in negotiating the final remuneration package.
Growing responsibilities
In terms of product development clients demand a shorter recruitment cycle and for this we constantly labor to acquire the required market leading processes and systems to raise productivity. We also foresee growing use of competency assessment testing to verify the suitability of candidates. There is scope for ESS to develop into management audit, and in particular the management of large-scale recruitment projects such as those associated with major start-ups.
KPMG in Bahrain does not offer Executive Selection and Search services to its SEC registered audit clients.
